Josh Freese, formerly the drummer of Foo Fighters, announced that he was suddenly fired from the band in May 2025 after two years with them. The other members of the band had not commented on Josh’s dismissal at the time of publication, but the music veteran posted a public statement on his Instagram.

«Foo Fighters called me on Monday to inform me that they had decided to 'go a different way with their drummer'», - Josh wrote in his Instagram post, adding that «the reason was not given» for the band’s decision to let him go.

Josh added that in his 40 years of professional drumming, «I have never been fired from a band». He then admitted that he is «not angry», - but still «a little shocked and disappointed».

«But, as many of you know, I have always worked freelance and moved from band to band, so I’m fine», - Josh reassured his fans. He then said that despite the blow of being fired, he «enjoyed the last two years with [Foo Fighters], both on stage and off, and support everything they believe is best for the band».

At the end of his statement, Josh joked: «Stay tuned for my 'Top 10 possible reasons Josh was kicked out of Foo Fighters' list».
