Julianne Hough shared about being sexually assaulted when she was just four years old.

The 36-year-old star, known for her career as a professional dancer and as a host on Dancing With the Stars, where she won two Mirrorball trophies, appeared on «The Jamie Kern Lima Show» on Thursday, August 15, to reveal her truth.

The sister of DWTS judge Derek Hough grew up taking care of her mother, who exhibited «maniacal behavior» while her father worked and her siblings were at school. In this role, she lost her voice for herself and described this period as a «confusion».

Julianne shared that, growing up in Utah, her «first experience» of sexual assault happened when she was «around 4 years old». She added that the perpetrator was a «neighbor».

Unfortunately, she revealed: «There weren’t many consequences for what happened — and, by the way, I’m not the only one in my family who has experienced something like this. It was very difficult to come to terms with. No one did anything».

Her parents, Marianne and Bruce, felt «guilty» and were «in a position where they didn’t feel capable and also felt helpless». Julianne did not disclose the abuse until she was 15, and this was the first time she publicly spoke about it in an interview.

She noted that the traumatic experiences in childhood left a deep mark, saying: «Being so young, and these being your first experiences — whether physical, mental, or sexual — these abuses of power set a precedent that others have control». Coming from a Mormon background, her life was supposed to seem perfect, which was far from reality.

These difficulties led her to block memories from birth to age 10. As an adult, she was able to discuss these issues with her parents and acknowledges that it helped her heal. «Now, being an adult, and after going through my healing, I really want to talk about it more. It’s uncomfortable to have these conversations again… because it’s not just, 'Okay, we’ve talked about it once and that’s it, now we’re all good'. I think you need to have these conversations to feel that confidence and safety, which I understand. I really understand», she admitted
