On Tuesday, their eldest daughter, Violet Affleck, 18, spoke before the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors as part of a public discussion, demanding the presence of masks, mandatory mask use in hospitals, and clean air in all government buildings, including prisons and detention centers.
In her address, she shared her personal experience, stating that in 2019 she fell ill with a post-viral condition. «I am fine now, but I have seen firsthand that medicine does not always have answers to the consequences of even minor viruses», - she said. «The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted this brightly».

Authorities must resist «mask bans», - she said. «[Mask bans] do not make us safer. They make vulnerable members of our community less protected and deprive them of the opportunity to participate together in Los Angeles»
