Kyle Chandler’s daughter, Sydney, conquers Hollywood: from «Don't Worry, Darling» to «Alien: Earth»

Kyle Chandler made a name for himself playing Eric Taylor in the series «Friday Night Lights», - but his daughter Sydney Chandler has gradually become known. After playing Violet in Olivia Wilde’s successful thriller «Don't Worry Darling», - Sydney was later cast as Wendy in the FX prequel series «Alien: Earth».

Sydney is the eldest daughter of Kyle and his wife Catherine McCuarry. Sydney has a younger sister named Sawyer. The Chandler family lives outside of Austin, Texas, although they often visit Los Angeles due to Kyle and Sydney’s connections to the Hollywood world.
Sydney’s character in the film «Don't Worry Darling» is a housewife and friend of Alice Chambers (played by Florence Pugh). They live in Victoria, California, where their husbands work on a secret project called «Victoria», - which raises suspicions for Alice. Sydney explained how she was able to connect with Violet as a newcomer in Hollywood in an interview with WWD.
«I, like Sydney, was very much a newcomer in this world, and so I quickly felt my character just by stepping in and absorbing the atmosphere on set and seeing how it all works», - she said. «And it translated really well into my character».
Sydney also played the lead role in the FX mini-series on Hulu «Pistols», - about Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones and the band’s rise to fame. She played Chrissie Hynde, the founder of Pretenders, who almost married Steve and his bandmate Johnny Rotten to obtain a work permit.
«My father is an actor, and so you never want to do what your parents do», - Sydney explained in her interview with WWD. «So I stayed very far away from that. Then I wanted to be a veterinarian, and it seems in my last year of school, when I was failing math and science, I thought, 'maybe not.' And then I started doing creative writing, and I accidentally took an acting class here in Austin when I was studying writing. And I just wanted to do character study of writers, actors, and see how people try to play, it would be an interesting subject to evaluate. And then I just fell in love with it. My acting teacher said, 'you can stay in the class if you start auditioning,' and it all went from there».
Kyle, also known for films like «Manchester by the Sea», - «The Wolf of Wall Street», - and «First Man», - has always been by his daughter’s side as she follows in his professional footsteps.
«He was extremely supportive, and we really, we had some really good conversations about, you know. I want to go my own way through this, my own way through this, with my work», - Sydney told WWD. «And he was really, really just supportive. He’s my dad. He’s here for me», - she said.
Currently, Sydney plays Wendy in the FX series «Alien: Earth», - a prequel to the science fiction franchise «Alien». In May 2025, the actress told Entertainment Weekly about her role, noting that Wendy is her «favorite character [she's] ever played»
