Documentary series about Nick and Aaron Carter: everything we know about the show «Fallen Idols» on the ID channel

Nick Carter and his late brother, Aaron Carter, are the subjects of an upcoming documentary series on Investigation Discovery. Following the success of the platform’s documentary film Quiet on Set: The Dark Sides of Kids TV, the network announced a four-part series titled Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter. ID explained in a press release that the production will cover the rise of the brothers to fame and their own struggles in the public eye.

According to ID, «Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter not only offers a deeper understanding around the accusations, but also chronicles the intense backlash faced by Nick’s accusers after their decision to come forward publicly, and the long-term impact it had on their lives. … Fallen Idols explores the dark side of fame and the tense dynamics within a family, as well as the intense challenges faced by accusers speaking out against celebrities and pop culture icons in the modern world».
The trailer for the series begins with women discussing how «charmed» fans around the world were by Nick, thanks to his fame with the Backstreet Boys. However, one of them claimed to know how «evil» the performer of the hit «Everybody» could be. Nick’s ex-girlfriend, Kaia Jones, appears in the documentary, as well as Aaron’s former fiancée, Melanie Martin. She shares a child, Prince, with the late musical artist.
Nick has not publicly reacted to the documentary series yet.
Fallen Idols will air on May 27 and 28 on Investigation Discovery.
In November 2022, Aaron was found dead after drowning in his home bathtub. He was 34 years old. The autopsy report confirmed that Aaron had taken the anti-anxiety medication alprazolam, and that he had inhaled difluoroethane, which is a flammable gas.
Many celebrities reacted to the news of Aaron’s premature death, including his ex-girlfriend Hilary Duff. They were in a high-profile relationship from 2000 to 2003.
«For Aaron — I am deeply sorry that life was so hard for you and that you had to fight in front of the whole world», - the former Disney Channel actress wrote in an Instagram post in 2022. «You had a charm that was absolutely sparkling. My teenage self loved you very much. Sending love to your family at this time. Rest in peace».
Aaron had struggled with his mental health for many years before his death.
Nick was accused of sexual assault by three different women: Melissa Schuman, Ashley Repp, and Shannon «Shay» Rut. In 2022, Shannon filed a lawsuit against Nick. In response, Nick denied her allegations in a statement released by his lawyer.
«Unfortunately, for several years now, Ms. Rut has been manipulated to make false accusations against Nick — and these accusations have been repeatedly and substantially changed over time», - the statement obtained by Hollywood Life read. «No one should be deceived by a press trick organized by a greedy lawyer — there is nothing in these accusations that we are sure the courts will quickly understand».
While Nick maintained his innocence against all allegations of sexual assault and rape, it is unclear whether he and his accusers have settled any lawsuits. In early 2024, a judge dismissed Nick’s request to dismiss the case against Melissa, Rolling Stone reports.
