U.S. President Donald Trump was met with loud boos during his visit to the college football game between Texas and Tennessee, which took place on September 26. This event was one of the most anticipated matchups of the week, and Trump was introduced to the audience after Air Force One flew over Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee.
After his name was announced, Trump, sitting next to gubernatorial candidate Marsha Blackburn, faced clear discontent from a portion of the crowd, although there were also positive cheers among the boos. Despite this, the president showed no signs of embarrassment during the game, in which Texas won against Tennessee with a score of 20−17. Trump did not publicly endorse either team before the match.
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian noted that the president’s presence could cause some communication issues during the game if he decided to leave the stadium before it ended. He cited an example from last year when the team could not communicate with the coaching staff because the president left the game early.
This is not the first time Trump has faced negative public reactions. He was also loudly booed at the World Cup final and during Game 3 of the NBA Finals. Trump commented on his reaction to the booing, stating that he believed it was mostly applause.
