Donald Trump did not comment on President Joe Biden’s remarks about «garbage». On Wednesday, October 30, the 78-year-old Republican candidate held a rally in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and instead of starting the event from the stage, Trump interacted with fans and the media from a white garbage truck.

«How do you like my garbage truck?» Trump said, according to the Associated Press. «This is in honor of Kamala and Joe Biden». Trump then insisted that he «loves Puerto Rico» and that «Puerto Rico loves him». He concluded the staged drive-in by telling journalists, «I hope you enjoyed this garbage truck. Thank you very much».

Earlier this week, Biden, 81, appeared on a call with the Voto Latino rights group. In it, he mentioned comedian Tony Hinchcliffe, who called Puerto Rico a «floating island of garbage» during Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden in New York. Hinchcliffe, 40, made additional racist remarks about Latin Americans, claiming that they «love making babies».

Recalling Hinchcliffe’s derogatory comments, Biden said, «Just the other day at his rally, the speaker called Puerto Rico a floating island of garbage. Well, let me tell you, I don’t know a Puerto Rican that I know, Puerto Rico, where I live, in my home state of Delaware. They are good, decent, honorable people».

The president added that «the only garbage he sees floating there is his supporters», - referring to Trump’s fans.

«His demonization of Latin Americans is unacceptable, and it is unworthy of Americans», - Biden concluded. «It completely contradicts everything we have done, everything we have been».

In a subsequent statement, Biden turned to X (formerly Twitter) to clarify his statement.

«Earlier today, I called the hateful rhetoric about Puerto Rico spewed by a Trump supporter at his rally at Madison Square Garden, garbage — it’s the only word I can think of to describe it», - Biden tweeted. «His demonization of Latin Americans is unacceptable. That’s what I meant to say. The comments at that rally do not reflect who we are as a nation».

In response to the president’s comments, Vice President Kamala Harris emphasized that she does not exclude people based on their party affiliation.

«I have been very clear with the American public, I respect the issues that people are facing», - she told reporters last week. «I am serious when I say that if elected president, I will represent all Americans, including those who do not vote for me, and meet their needs and desires».

As for Trump, the Republican was asked about his reaction to Hinchcliffe’s controversial remarks.

«I know nothing about the comedian», - Trump insisted, according to AP. «I don’t know who he is. I’ve never seen him. I heard he made a statement, but that was a statement he made. He’s a comedian, that’s all I can tell you. I know nothing about him»
