Donald Trump immediately reacted to President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the upcoming elections. In a statement to NBC News on Sunday, July 21, 78-year-old Trump said that Biden, 81, «should never have been [in office] in the first place».

«There has never been a president who has done such damage to our country, from energy independence to letting in millions and millions of illegal immigrants», - Trump said in his statement. «He should have stayed in his basement».

Trump followed this up by posting a statement on Truth Social, in which he called Biden «Crooked Joe» and «the worst president in our nation’s history».

«He was unfit for service from the beginning, but people around him lied to America about his complete and absolute mental, physical, and cognitive decline», - Trump claimed. «Whoever the Left puts forward now, it will just be more of the same. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!»

Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential elections came after several weeks of public calls from Democrats for him to step down. However, the politician had long insisted that he had no intention of giving up. After a weak debate against Trump in June, the White House defended Biden’s position in the race. Furthermore, the president appeared in several television interviews and press conferences to prove that he was ready for another presidential term. After Trump was shot during a rally in Pennsylvania, Biden addressed the public and pointed out that political disagreements should not provoke violence.

Despite his initial stance, Biden decided to withdraw from the presidential race in a public letter.

«It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your president», - Biden wrote in his letter. «And while my intention was to run for re-election, I believe it is in the best interests of my party and country for me to step aside and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president until the end of my term».

Noting that he «will speak to the nation later this week in more detail about my decision», - Biden added that he wanted to thank Vice President Kamala Harris «for being an outstanding partner in all of this work».

«And let me express my sincere gratitude to the American people for the faith and trust you have placed in me», - he concluded. «I believe today what I have always believed: that there is nothing America cannot do — when we do it together. We just have to remember that we are the United States of America»
