Donald Trump is making headlines again, this time attracting fans of Taylor Swift, known as Swifties, to his political campaign.
The 78-year-old politician seems to have used artificial intelligence to attract more attention. In a post published on Truth Social on Sunday, August 18, he shared several images of women wearing t-shirts with the inscription «Swifties for Trump», as well as a photoshopped picture of Uncle Sam with the face of the 34-year-old singer and the caption «Taylor wants you to vote for Donald Trump». Trump responded to the images by writing: «I accept!»
Although the singer of «Karma» has not made any public statements on the matter, her fans quickly came to her defense. On X (formerly Twitter), one user wrote: «Taylor Swift should sue him». Another fan reacted to Trump’s move by sharing a tweet from the pop star in 2020 where she criticized his presidency, saying: «After you fueled white supremacy and racism throughout your presidency, you have the audacity to pretend to be a moral authority against the threat of violence? 'When the looting starts, the shooting starts'??? We will vote you out in November».
Another user added: «This seems… illegal!»
On the same day, Trump also shared a video on the platform where a woman discussed a recent event at Taylor Swift’s show in Vienna, where there was an attempted terrorist attack. The woman stated: «I never thought I’d see the day when Swifties would perform for Trump… Something must have happened with ISIS. There’s a lot of terrorism there. I think she was forced to cancel the show because of this, and many of them are just saying, 'You know, if Trump were in power, this would never have happened'».
Although Taylor Swift has not publicly announced her political affiliation in these elections, it was previously mentioned in a book titled «Apprentice in Wonderland: How Donald Trump and Mark Burnett Led America Through the Looking Glass» that Trump remarked: «She's beautiful — very beautiful! I find her very beautiful. I think she’s a liberal. She probably doesn’t like Trump. I’ve heard she’s very talented… I think she’s very beautiful, actually — unusually beautiful!»
Trump’s post came shortly after he agreed to face his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris, in a presidential debate on September 10 on ABC. He agreed to three debates, while the current vice president agreed to two presidential debates and one vice presidential discussion
