Dr. Don: new songs about mental health and hope
28 august 2025 в 23:28
Doctor Don didn’t intend to write a song about mental health issues. He was simply following the same creative rhythm that had defined much of his recent work, alternating between fast and slow, short and long, allowing his piano to lead the melody before adding bass and a synthetic violin named La Peske. The song «Escape Reality» was meant to be a quiet contrast to the lively, radio-ready song «Ruled by Time», Doctor Don’s fastest song to date.
The title came to him after dozens of unsuccessful ideas. It seemed right to him. Simple, grounded, slightly elusive. He began recording on June 21st. The lyrics came on June 30th.
«I felt like it was getting pretty dark», - Doctor Don shared in an email.
The song doesn’t shy away from sadness. It starts with lines about life and pain, about how easy it is to pretend everything is okay while quietly falling apart. But then something changes. In the bridge, the hero takes control again. The words don’t preach or flatter. They simply point to another end.
«Today luck will change», - he sings. «No longer my road or highway».
This turn, recorded in chords, as if Doctor Don knows someone needs to hear it.
His drummer Matt brought his own sorrow to the track. Having lost a close friend, Matt recorded the drums with that in mind. There is pain in the rhythm, if you listen closely.
And there is hope too.
Nevertheless, Doctor Don couldn’t leave his listeners, let alone himself, in this emotional fog. So he changed direction. «Beautiful Vibes» is a song that envelops you like sunlight. Lively, melodic, and deeply human, it starts with a simple idea: kindness is free and holds more value than most things.
«It costs nothing to do / Think about the beautiful vibes / Straight to you / I’m sending beautiful vibes», - he sings in the chorus.
Where «Escape Reality» lingers in the pain of uncertainty, «Beautiful Vibes» offers clarity: community matters, friendship heals, music uplifts.
Both songs were recorded in just a few days in July 2025 and released together as a kind of emotional diptych. One song for sleepless nights. One for mornings that still seem possible.
In Doctor Don’s artistry, there is a sincerity that makes it hard to look away. He doesn’t write to impress. He writes to understand. His lyrics are somewhere between journal entries and late confessions. The effect is intimate, like receiving a voice message from someone who genuinely cares about how you’re doing.
He said he cried for the first time while recording the song’s lyrics. Yet he finished it. Still handed it over to Matt. Still released it into the world.
Doctor Don doesn’t need artificial dramatization. His real life is more than enough. Instead, he offers presence. With over 115,000 subscribers on YouTube and a growing catalog of songs spanning genres, he quietly creates something rare: music that resonates because it is unguarded.
Behind every piano riff and baritone hook is someone trying to make sense of life, in the only way they know how. Sometimes it sounds like «Feeling Lazy» or «I'll Listen». Lately, it sounds like «Escape Reality» and «Beautiful Vibes» — two songs that couldn’t be more different; released together because that’s how emotions truly work.
One minute you’re struggling with mental health issues. The next you’re smiling at a stranger. Life is never just one thing.
Doctor Don knows this. He doesn’t just write about it. He lives it
