Drake Bell is open to creating a reboot of «Drake and Josh» — or something similar. The 38-year-old musician revealed that he and his former on-screen stepbrother, Josh Peck, have been «discussing» a potential project.
«I would love to. We’ve been talking about it», - Drake said in an interview with The Patriot-News, published on August 16. However, Drake noted that he «also didn’t want to do it when everyone was doing reboots. It’s like, 'Okay, sure, let’s do a reboot because everyone’s doing reboots.'»
The singer and songwriter of «I Found a Way» then pointed out that if they «are going to do something, it has to be more special», - adding: «Let's surprise them, instead of just doing a reboot again».
Although Drake did not specify which reboots he was referring to, Nickelodeon has recently released several sequels, including the series iCarly, Zoey 102, and Good Burger 2.
Elsewhere in his interview, Drake noted that he would not want to continue «Drake and Josh» with the same characters.
«I would love to. We’ve been talking about it. (…) If we are going to do something, it has to be more special. Let’s surprise them, instead of just doing a reboot again», - he said.
Drake’s comments come five months after it was revealed that he was sexually assaulted by a former Nickelodeon crew member named Brian Peck (no relation to Josh Peck) in the documentary series «Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV». In 2004, Brian pleaded guilty to oral copulation with a person under 16 and committing a lewd act with a 14- or 15-year-old. At the time, Drake was not publicly identified as the victim. Brian served 16 months in prison and was required to register as a sex offender. Nevertheless, he was still hired to work on children’s shows after his release from prison, including Disney Channel’s «Life with Derek and Cody».
After Drake revealed that he was a victim in this case, Nickelodeon released a statement to Hollywood Life, saying: «Now that Drake Bell has revealed his identity as the plaintiff in the 2004 case, we are saddened and saddened to learn of the trauma he experienced, and we commend and support the strength needed to come forward».
Although Drake and Josh’s friendship had been previously strained, the rock star noted in a TikTok post in March that Josh «reached out to me to talk to me and help me figure this out».
