Nearly two months after Jeffrey Manke and his two daughters were found dead in his home in Winneconne, Wisconsin, the medical examiner’s office confirmed that the family was the victim of a murder-suicide.
According to the report from the Winnebago County Medical Examiner’s Office, both daughters, Jaylin and Lenora Manke, were shot with a .38 caliber revolver. Lenora, 11, was shot at least twice, while Jaylin, 16, sustained one gunshot wound. Jeffrey, 57, then took his own life after killing his children. Toxicology tests revealed that Jeffrey’s blood alcohol level was 0.133, significantly above the legal limit for driving of 0.08.
The report also stated that «the evidence found at the scene is consistent with a double murder-suicide scenario». As previously reported, Jeffrey and his daughters died just hours after he finalized his divorce from the girls' mother, Lindsay Lewandowski, on July 31. Lewandowski filed for divorce in 2024, which was followed by a contentious custody battle.
Three days after the tragedy, Lewandowski posted on Facebook that her daughters «felt unsafe» with Jeffrey. She expressed her sorrow and noted that everyone they interacted with knew it was unsafe for the girls to be in his care. Lewandowski claimed that the system did not respond to their cries for help.
According to her, Jeffrey’s alcohol use allegedly played a role in their strained relationships with the children. In a document filed in March 2025, Lewandowski stated that his «intoxication caused great concern for the children». Jeffrey, for his part, claimed that he believed his children were encouraged to report him to the police.
In another document filed in April 2025, Lewandowski discussed Jeffrey’s alcohol issues and claimed that he was drinking while under the influence of prescription painkillers. She also stated that his drinking affected the entire family.
