Ed Sheeran comments on the scandal involving Macklemore at the concert

During the live broadcast of Saturday Night Live UK on September 19, Ed Sheeran and his tour with Macklemore became the subject of satire. At the beginning of the show, in a sketch featuring the royal family, the actor portraying Sheeran commented on the current situation surrounding the tour, in which Macklemore was excluded after he said «Free Palestine» at concerts in New Jersey.

The actor playing Sheeran humorously responded to King Charles III, saying, «Your Majesty, I don’t like to take sides. I don’t want to alienate my fans, whether they are people or robots. Many of my tickets are bought by bot scalpers». He added that sometimes the bravest thing to do in a conflict is to remain silent.

Sheeran, for his part, later denied rumors of his involvement in Macklemore’s exclusion, stating that he is working on «building bridges». His words sparked divided opinions on social media, and other tour participants left in solidarity with Macklemore and the Palestinian people.

At a concert in Philadelphia on September 19, Sheeran apologized for the «mistakes» and noted that his music has always been a safe space for everyone. He emphasized the importance of honoring his commitments to fans and continued his tour solo.
