According to Netflix, the film’s synopsis follows Eddie’s character, Axel Foley, who is «back on duty in Beverly Hills. When his daughter Jane’s life is threatened, she and Foley team up with a new partner and old friends Billy Rosewood and Taggart to heat things up and uncover a conspiracy».

Director Mark Molloy revealed that Eddie improvised many of his best moments on screen. According to Netflix, the director said, «Some of the funniest moments in 'Axel F' are when Eddie improvises. For me, a lot of my job was creating the right environment, surrounding Eddie with the right people to allow him to do what he does best».
During an interview with CBR, Eddie recalled his original 1984 film. At the time, the comedian was known for his iconic laugh, but he didn’t want to be remembered just for that.
«In the 80s, I thought, 'I don’t want to be known just for my laugh,'» Eddie told the magazine in June 2024. «I noticed that some people would do impressions of me, and all they would do is laugh. I thought, 'You know what? I’m going to stop laughing like that.' I forced myself to stop laughing like that, which was actually unnatural. Now I don’t laugh like that»
