Officially! The father and son duo, Eugene and Dan Levy, will host the 76th Emmy Awards ceremony, which will take place on Sunday, September 15.
«We are thrilled to have two generations of comedic genius as hosts on the Emmy stage», - said Television Academy Chairman Chris Abrego. «Eugene and Dan Levy are known for their unforgettable moments of laughter on screen, and together they are simply unstoppable. I can’t wait for Emmy fans to see what they have prepared for all of us».
This duo will go down in history as the first father and son to host a television awards ceremony. But this is not the first time they have attracted attention at this ceremony. In 2020, when winners appeared remotely due to the pandemic, the Levys won the top awards for their hit series «Schitt's Creek».
77-year-old Eugene, who already has two Emmy Awards for SCTV Network 90, won two more for outstanding comedic performance and outstanding comedy series as an executive producer. Similarly, his 41-year-old son, Dan, won an award for outstanding comedy series as an executive producer and also took home three others that same night: as a writer, director, and best supporting actor in a comedy series.
«For two Canadians who won our Emmy Awards in a literal quarantine tent, the idea of being invited to host the ceremony this year in a real theater was motivation enough», - the Levys said in a joint statement. «We are excited to raise a glass to this extraordinary television season».
Previously, actor and comedian Anthony Anderson, best known for the series «Black-ish», - hosted the 2023 Emmy Awards ceremony, which actually took place in January 2024 due to Hollywood writers' and actors' strikes.
«Eugene and Dan’s comedic intuition and their amazing ability to capture the hearts of viewers will make the Emmy ceremony memorable, dedicated to the best and brightest of this year», - said Disney Television Group President Craig Erwich.
For Eugene, the evening will be eventful. In addition to his hosting duties this year, the «American Pie» actor is nominated for his Apple TV+ series «The Shy Traveler with Eugene Levy» in the category of «Outstanding Host in a Non-Fiction Series or Special».
Nominations for the 76th annual Emmy Awards ceremony were announced back in July, with the series «Shogun» and «Bear» leading with 25 and 23 nominations respectively.
Eugene and Dan are not only the first father and son but also the first duo to host the ceremony since 2018 when «Saturday Night Live» stars Colin Jost and Michael Che took the stage together
