Elle Macpherson revealed that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, and she chose an «intuitive, heart-led, holistic approach». The 60-year-old model shared that she had turned down «standard medical solutions».

In an interview with Women’s Weekly, the Sports Illustrated 1988 cover star said that her diagnosis was a «shock; it was unexpected». She continued: «It really gave me the opportunity to dive into my inner feeling to find a solution that would suit me… I realized that I needed my own truth, my belief system, to support me through this. And that’s what I did. So it was a wonderful exercise in being true to myself, trusting myself, and trusting the nature of my body and the path I chose».

In her memoir, Elle admitted that rejecting conventional treatment methods was challenging, and that «rejecting her inner feeling» was even harder. Her family was divided on her decision. In her book, she wrote about how her son Cy, 21, was against chemotherapy because he believed that «chemo kills», while her other son, Flynn, 36, did not support her choice. As for her former partner Arki Busson, he did not approve, but remained «very supportive».

Although her children had their concerns, Macpherson acknowledged that they still stood by her throughout the process, despite feeling «very scared». Reflecting on her decision in her memoir, she added: «Sometimes an authentic choice from the heart doesn’t make sense to others… but it doesn’t have to. People thought I was crazy, but I knew I needed to make a choice that truly resonated with me. For me, that meant considering the emotional as well as physical factors related to breast cancer. It was time for deep inner reflection. And it required courage».

Her diagnosis was made seven years ago, and since then she has devoted every minute to healing, under the care of medical professionals. She recently shared with Women’s Weekly that she is currently in «clinical remission»
