Elizabeth Gillis revealed that she and Ariana Grande rewatched «Victorious» after the release of the controversial documentary film «The Silence on Set» about the Nickelodeon show. Elizabeth, 30, shared that when the documentary film came out, she called the pop star of eternal sunshine, 31-year-old Ariana, and they discussed all their feelings about the show. She noted that she was very glad to be in touch with Ariana during all of this in a new interview for Variety, published on Tuesday, July 16.
The documentary film «The Silence on Set» focused on the behind-the-scenes of some of Nickelodeon’s most popular shows, mainly on Dan Schneider and allegations of his inappropriate behavior. Dan was the creator and showrunner of «Victorious». After the release of the documentary film in the spring, the «Dynasty» actress shared that she had spoken with Ariana.
Elizabeth explained that she and Ariana were very open about their feelings while rewatching the documentary film. «I definitely reassessed my experience with Ariana through FaceTime. We watched it together, and then met later that week or the next week and kind of processed it all together», - she told the publication. «There was a lot to go through».
Elizabeth admitted that she looks at «Victorious» «incredibly positively», - but an adult’s perspective can «reassess memories in your mind a bit, or cloud them, or color them — maybe rightfully». She also explained that she was glad to reminisce about it together with the singer. «We definitely leaned on each other, talked to each other, and checked in with each other», - she said.
Ariana had previously talked about her feelings towards the content of «Victorious» in an interview on Penn Badgley’s podcast. «Now, looking at some clips, I’m like, 'Damn, really? Oh, damn' … and things that weren’t approved for the network were slipped onto our website or something like that. I’m probably upset, yeah», - she said.
After the release of the documentary film, Nickelodeon released a statement. «While we cannot confirm or deny allegations of past production behavior, Nickelodeon as a policy investigates all official complaints within our commitment to creating a safe and professional work environment, free from harassment or other forms of inappropriate behavior», - the network said. «Our highest priorities are the well-being and best interests not only of our employees, actors, and crew, but also of all children, and we have taken numerous measures to ensure that we meet our own high standards and the expectations of our audience»
