Elizabeth Holmes, the founder of Theranos, praised President Donald Trump after being granted the opportunity for early release from prison, where she was serving over 11 years for fraud. In her post on X from September 25, Holmes wrote, «We are winning», - quoting a promotional video released by the Trump administration.
Holmes is reported to have been released from a minimum-security federal prison camp in Bryan, Texas, where she served her sentence alongside Ghislaine Maxwell and Jen Shah. According to a letter sent to Holmes' crime victims and published by The New York Times, she is set to be transferred to a halfway house next year. The move to the Austin Transitional Center in Del Valle, Texas, is scheduled for August 23, 2027.
Holmes was convicted of defrauding investors out of millions of dollars through her failed blood-testing company. In 2022, she was sentenced to 11 years and 3 months in prison and is required to pay $ 452 million to 12 victims. One of her victims, Alan Eisenman, commented on her upcoming release, noting that he has yet to receive a single penny in compensation.
Holmes' sentence was reduced following changes to sentencing guidelines for first-time offenders with clean records. She also received additional reductions for good behavior under the First Step Act, signed by Trump in 2018.
