The founder of Theranos, Elizabeth Holmes, has sparked public outrage with her post about the «health and safety» of her child while serving time for fraud. On September 25, she tweeted: «I don’t often get angry. Today I am angry. People have jeopardized my child’s health and safety. They have consciously chosen this path».
In her message, Holmes did not specify whom or what she was addressing, but attached an image of herself lighting a match on a bridge. Later, she posted a photo with one of her children on a jet ski. Holmes and her partner, Billy Evans, are raising two children.
Following this, Holmes began responding to criticism for mentioning «health and safety», - considering that in 2022 she was found guilty on four federal counts of fraud and conspiracy. Her company, Theranos, ceased operations in 2018 amid allegations of misleading the public about the capabilities of its blood-testing technology.
Holmes is actively using Twitter, despite serving a 135-month sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution in Bryan, Texas. Last week, it was reported that she could be released early in 2027 and transferred to a halfway house in Del Valle, Texas. Her business partner, Ramesh «Sunny» Balwani, was sentenced to nearly 13 years in prison and ordered to pay part of $ 452 million in restitution to victims.
Holmes and her attorneys have repeatedly appealed to President Donald Trump for a pardon. On September 25, she praised Trump’s political situation, despite unfavorable forecasts for Republicans in the midterm elections, low approval ratings, and other issues.
Additionally, Holmes has once again found herself in the spotlight with the announcement of a documentary set to be released on October 16, which tells the story of her and her partner in the final weeks before surrendering to federal authorities. The film was screened at the 53rd Telluride Film Festival on September 6 and received positive reviews.
