«As some of you may know, I have had problems and now I have lost my vision», - Elton said, according to several sources. «I couldn’t see the performance, but I enjoyed it». He then thanked his husband, David Furnish, calling David his «rock», - because Elton couldn’t «attend many rehearsals» for the musical.
A week before this, Elton discussed vision problems during an interview on ABC News.
«Unfortunately, I lost vision in my right eye in July due to an infection in the south of France», - Elton said in his November 2024 interview. «And it’s been four months since I haven’t been able to see. And my left eye is not in the best condition. So there is hope and support that everything will be okay, but I’m kind of stuck at the moment».
Elton did not explain what infection he caught and how it led to vision problems.

In September 2024, Elton announced that he had contracted an unknown «severe eye infection» that left him with «limited vision».
«Over the summer, I contracted a severe eye infection that unfortunately left me with limited vision in one eye», - Elton shared via Instagram at the time. «I am recovering, but it’s a very slow process, and it will take time before the vision returns to the affected eye».
The award-winning musician thanked his doctors for their help and added that he «feels positive about the progress made in his recovery and healing so far».
However, two months later, Elton said he still cannot «see anything» during his interview on ABC News in November 2024.
«I can’t read anything, can’t watch anything», - Elton said, adding, «We are taking steps to try to improve this, but at the moment, this is what we are focusing on».
