Elton John is still standing despite living with a recently disclosed health issue. The legendary British musician, singer, and performer broke the hearts of fans by revealing a vision problem, apparently caused by an infection.
At the gala evening «The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical on the West End» in December 2024, Elton addressed the audience and explained why he couldn’t see the performance for which he had written the lyrics.
«As some of you may know, I’ve had problems and now I’ve lost my sight», - Elton said, according to several sources. «I couldn’t see the performance, but I enjoyed it». He then thanked his husband David Furnish, «who has been my support because I couldn’t attend many rehearsals».
Elton did not disclose the chronic condition that led to his vision loss. However, he recently told ABC News' Robin Roberts that he contracted an infection in France, which directly affected his vision. The singer of «Tiny Dancer» did not specify what the infection was.
«Unfortunately, I lost my sight in my right eye in July due to an infection in southern France», - Elton said in his November 2024 interview. «And for four months now, I haven’t been able to see. And my left eye is not in the best condition. So there is hope and support that everything will be fine, but I’m kind of stuck at the moment».
Overall, Elton is in good health, but the loss of vision has affected various aspects of his day.
«We are taking steps to try to improve this, but at the moment that’s what we’re focusing on», - Elton added during his ABC interview, noting that he can «see nothing» and «can't read anything, can’t watch anything».
