Emilia Clarke will always be our Daenerys Targaryen, but the star was afraid of losing her iconic role in «Game of Thrones». During an interview for The Big Issue, published on Monday, June 10, the 37-year-old actress recalled how her brain injury convinced her that she would lose her job on the acclaimed HBO series.
«When you have a brain injury — because it changes your sense of yourself at such a dramatic level — all of your insecurities that you go to work with are doubled overnight», - explained Emilia. «The first fear that we all had was: 'Oh my god, will they fire me? Will they fire me because they think I’m not able to do the job?'»
Emilia suffered two brain hemorrhages — one in 2011 and another in 2013. According to the publication, she experienced both between seasons of the series. Therefore, she only told a few people in her inner circle about it due to concerns about her health.
After the first brain hemorrhage in 2011, Emilia returned to the set, but feared a recurrence due to the intense shooting schedule and pressure she felt to maintain her role. She recalled what she was thinking at the time: «Well, if I’m going to die, I might as well die on live television».
This is not the first time the actress from «Solo: A Star Wars Story» has opened up about her brain injury. In March 2019, she detailed her experience in an essay published in The New Yorker, noting that she was diagnosed with a subarachnoid hemorrhage
