Emma Raducanu admits to her decision to withdraw from the doubles match with Andy Murray due to stiffness in her wrist.

On Saturday, July 6, the 21-year-old athlete received a lot of criticism for leaving the match after ruining her 37-year-old partner’s last serve at Wimbledon.

Andy, who has been playing tennis since childhood, became known when he participated in the London Olympics in 2012. Since then, he has become a well-known player in the industry, winning Wimbledon twice and the US Open once.

Emma recalled at a press conference organized by Wimbledon: «Of course, I didn’t want to deprive him of his last match. But ultimately, I think many players in a similar situation would have done the same, prioritizing their body… I support this decision. Yes, it was a difficult decision».

According to the tennis player, she was suffering from stiffness in her back and wrist, which she felt during her singles match against Lulu Sun, which she lost. «I don’t think it was a mistake, because I felt good, and then yesterday morning I woke up with stiffness. I need to prioritize myself, my singles, my body, and I think it was the right decision. I support this decision, although it was difficult, because it’s what I always wanted to do», - she shared.

«I think in this sport, especially as an individual, you need to make your own decisions and prioritize yourself. Especially considering my history, I had to put myself first», - she added later.

Despite all this, she expressed hope that Andy will get his second chance to say goodbye at this year’s Olympic Games in Paris and called him a «champion». Although he had to retire from the sport, he mentioned during the farewell ceremony: «It's hard because I would like to keep playing. But I can’t. Physically it’s too hard right now, all the injuries have accumulated and, as I said, they were not insignificant. I want to play forever, I love this sport. It has given me so much… taught me many lessons that I can use in the rest of my life. I don’t want to stop, it’s hard»
