Emma Roberts talked about how «scary» her aunt Julia Roberts' fame is on the «Table for Two» podcast released on Tuesday, June 25.
«I've seen up close what it really looks like with my aunt Julia… It’s fun and great, but there’s a part that really scares me», - shared the 33-year-old actress with host Bruce Bozzi.
The actress from the series «American Horror Story» comes from a family of actors, including her aunt and father, Eric Roberts. Despite working in the industry since she was nine years old and having a family history in the industry, she did not want to live in their shadow and «always wanted to carve out her own path».
«Even in my late teens, I never wanted my fame to overshadow my work… Because for me, there’s nothing scarier than being so famous that you’re never left alone, but at the same time you don’t get good roles», - Emma added.
As a member of a Hollywood actor family, she felt a certain pressure because she is often called «star kids», - especially as a woman, «I feel like young girls struggle more with the label 'star kids'… I don’t see people being as harsh about the sons of famous actors».
During the interview, she mentioned how the world «loves stories of overnight success», - but since she had early access to the industry, she doesn’t fall into that category. «And so, if you’re not a girl from the sticks who broke into Hollywood, there’s a certain skepticism like, 'Well, your dad was so-and-so'», - she added.
Although the actress from the series «Scream Queens» is considered a «star kid», - she expressed the opinion that «no one should be judged for wanting to follow their dream».
Despite not wanting to be in the shadow of her aunt, Emma told Tatler magazine that she felt stuck in teenage roles — starting on Nickelodeon — until she met Ryan Murphy, who allowed her to take on darker roles. «My favorite roles were the ones that people didn’t expect — when Ryan Murphy chose me for 'American Horror Story,' for example… People saw me as this good, teenage girl, and then I couldn’t get older, edgier roles», - she said
