Fans of Beyoncé at the Democratic National Convention and those watching at home were deeply disappointed by the absence of the 32-time Grammy winner at the United Center arena in Chicago on Thursday evening, despite widespread rumors that she would be a «big surprise performer».

On the fourth day of the DNC, anticipation was high as many delegates on the floor wore cowboy hats and red, white, and blue bandanas, emulating the style of the 42-year-old singer depicted on the cover of her latest country album «Cowboy Carter». However, as the night went on, Queen Bey along with her husband Jay-Z and daughter Blue Ivy did not make an appearance.

Even after Vice President Kamala Harris took the stage, there were still no signs of the rumored performance.

The disappointment was palpable, especially after TMZ had earlier reported, citing sources, that Beyoncé would perform when Harris officially accepted the Democratic Party’s nomination for president.

«Has TMZ ever been wrong before?» television writer Ben Simon wrote. «This is a complete failure of American intelligence. We need a special prosecutor».

Adam Smith, vice president of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, jokingly added: «Time to call TMZ».

It was later revealed that Beyoncé's representative clarified that the singer was «never scheduled» to attend the DNC in 2024. «The information about the performance is incorrect», - the representative told the Hollywood Reporter.

Harris used Beyoncé's song «Freedom» with the singer’s permission since the launch of her presidential campaign. At her first public appearance after receiving Biden’s endorsement, Harris took the stage as this song played.

Additionally, the Harris-Warren campaign released a new ad featuring the Grammy-nominated song, with actor Jeffrey Wright as the narrator: «What America do we want? One where we are divided, angry, oppressed? Let’s go! We are Americans! Fascism? We defeated it. The moon? We landed on it. The future? We are building it. Freedom? No one loves it more».

Although the rumors ultimately turned out to be false, the DNC still featured a star-studded lineup, including performances by Stevie Wonder, John Legend, and Sheila E on Wednesday evening, as well as a surprise appearance by Lil Jon during the Georgia delegation roll call. To close the convention, The Chicks performed the National Anthem, and Pink and her daughter Willow Sage gave a touching performance of the song «What About Us».
