Professional golfer Phil Mickelson voluntarily entered a rehabilitation center after he was allegedly expelled from a prestigious golf club amid accusations of infidelity and inappropriate behavior. A representative for Mickelson confirmed that the athlete was seeking treatment for family trauma and addiction.
According to TMZ Sports, Mickelson has already left the facility. In June, journalist Alan Shipnuck published a report claiming that Mickelson had cheated on his wife, Amy, with whom he has been married for 30 years. A member of the Bridges club, located near Mickelson’s home in Rancho Santa Fe, California, stated that the athlete hired club staff to help him deceive his wife, who was allegedly tracking his phone.
According to the club member, Mickelson would hand his phone to a young man from the pro shop and pay him $ 500 to play on the course for several hours while Amy thought he was golfing. Another club member added that Mickelson also passed his phone to other club members to conceal his actions.
Additionally, Mickelson was accused of sending a nude photo of himself to his friend’s wife, Ashley Perez, with whom he allegedly suggested meeting when her husband fell asleep.
Mickelson’s representative released a statement asserting that Amy is not a public figure and did not choose this notoriety. The statement also mentioned that Mickelson was never forced to leave clubs at the insistence of his wife or the club, and that all decisions were made by him independently.
These accusations surfaced amid another incident in which Mickelson was accused of inappropriate touching of an employee at The Farms Golf Club, located near San Diego. The club initiated an investigation and asked Mickelson to leave the establishment after an employee reported the misconduct.
