The film «The Apprentice» debuted at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival and caused shock among viewers with its portrayal of Donald Trump. In addition to a scene of sexual violence, the depiction of a young Trump played by Sebastian Stan sparked a reaction from the former host of the reality show «The Apprentice». After details of the controversial film spread on social media, Hollywood Life gathered everything you need to know about the new film.

According to its official logline, «The Apprentice» is an immersion into the underworld of the American empire. It depicts the rise of a young Donald Trump to power through a Faustian deal with influential right-wing lawyer and political fixer Roy Cohn.

The film also claims to be inspired by «true events» from Trump’s life and career to date.

After its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, viewers reported that the film includes a graphic rape scene between Trump and his ex-wife Ivana Trump. According to Variety, the scene begins with Ivana (played by actress Maria Bakalova) playfully showing a book on female orgasms to her husband. Their interaction quickly takes a sharp turn, and the character of Trump admits that he no longer wants her. After an argument, Trump rapes her.

There is currently no official release date for the film «The Apprentice». After its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, the film is being put up for sale.

Upon learning of his portrayal in the film, Trump and his campaign reacted, calling it «garbage». According to a statement from campaign representative Stephen Chung, they plan to sue «to refute the clearly false claims of these pseudo-cinematographers».

«This garbage is pure fiction that sensationalizes a lie that has long been debunked», - added the representative, according to the Associated Press.

Director Ali Abbasi spoke to journalists at the Cannes Film Festival, noting: «I don’t necessarily think it’s a film he won’t like. I don’t necessarily think he’ll like it. I think he’ll be surprised, you know? And as I’ve already said, I would offer to meet him anywhere and discuss the context of the film, arrange a screening and talk afterwards if anyone from the Trump campaign is interested».
