As expected from the finale of any show, the internet has been filled with discussions. Therefore, it is practically impossible not to learn something unexpected, possibly even shocking, such as the death of a character. Now that the popular Netflix series has concluded, fans are wondering if Eleven dies at the end, as her fate seems to be left to the viewers' interpretation.

Eleven does indeed appear to be dying, but is she really dead at the end of the finale? The character played by Millie Bobby Brown sacrifices herself when Hopper (David Harbour) creates a bomb to destroy the «Upside Down». She tells her adoptive father, «I have to break this cycle».
She then shares one last kiss with her boyfriend Mike (Finn Wolfhard) and tells him, «None of this will end while I’m here… I need you to help them understand my choice».
The bomb explodes, and Eleven certainly seems dead. But it turns out she is alive. Her sister Kali (Linnea Berthelsen) casts a final spell to create an illusion of Eleven, making everyone think the real Eleven is exploding along with the bomb.
The Duffer Brothers spoke with Tudum from Netflix about Eleven’s fate, and they mostly kept their opinions as vague as possible.
«If Eleven is out there, then the only thing they can hope for is to believe that it’s true, because they can’t reach her. Everything falls apart if that’s the case», - noted Matt Duffer. «So, if this is the narrative, it’s really the best way to keep her alive. And it’s about how Mike and everyone else finds a way to move on after what happened».
Although Eleven may not be dead, she is not with the rest of the group playing «Dungeons and Dragons» when Mike decides that her story should remain a secret.
«She had to make everyone, including her friends, believe that she was dead», - Mike explains. «No one will ever know… I like to imagine that she’s in a beautiful place». The show then shows Eleven moving to a new town to start a new life.
Ross Duffer told Tudum that for him and the writers, the team «didn't want to take her power away».
«She represents a lot of the magic and wonder of childhood», - he continued. «For our characters to be able to move on and for the story of Hawkins and the 'Upside Down' to come to a close, Eleven had to leave… There was never a version of the story where Eleven spends time with the team at the end».
In short, the characters who seem to be dead are Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower), the Mind Flayer, and Kali, the latter of whom was shot.
Fortunately for fans, the main characters get a happy ending! Eighteen months after the explosion of the «Upside Down», - the whole team continues their lives. Max (Sadie Sink) is with Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin); Hopper has become a stepfather to Joyce and her children; Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) is a graduating student with honors; Steve (Joe Keery) is a sex education teacher and baseball coach, while Derek (Jake Connell) is a catcher on that team.
Others, like Nancy (Natalia Dyer), have left Emerson to pursue journalism, while Robin (Maya Hawke) is studying at Smith College. Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) is developing a film at NYU. And, as mentioned, Eleven seems to have found a new town to settle in, according to Mike’s narration during the game of «Dungeons and Dragons»
