The alleged real-life Martha Scott from the series «Fawn Baby», Fiona Harvey, has filed a lawsuit against Netflix. In new court documents, Harvey claimed that the way she was portrayed by actress Jessica Ganning was inaccurate, and that the story of the series' main character Richard Gadd is a «lie».

According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE on Thursday, June 6, Harvey is suing the platform for over 170 million dollars. The lawsuit claims that the statement made in the first episode, «This is a true story», is the «biggest lie in television history».

«It is a lie told by Netflix and show creator Richard Gadd, out of greed and thirst for fame; a lie designed to attract more viewers, gain more attention, earn big money, and cruelly destroy the life of the healing Fiona Harvey — an innocent woman tainted by Netflix and Richard Gadd on an unprecedented scale and scope», - the court documents state, according to the publication.

Furthermore, the lawsuit claims that Netflix «literally did nothing to verify the 'true story' told by Gadd. That is, it never investigated whether Harvey was convicted, which is a very serious distortion of facts. It did nothing to understand the relationship between Gadd and Harvey, if there was one. It did nothing to establish whether other facts, including assault, alleged stalking, or conviction, were accurate».

In response to the lawsuit, a representative of Netflix provided a statement to PEOPLE, stating: «We intend to vigorously defend this matter and support Richard Gadd’s right to tell his story».

Last month, Harvey spoke out about the show during an interview with Piers Morgan, calling the series, which won the Best Breakthrough Award for Best Limited Series at the 2024 Gotham TV Awards, «indecent».

«I find it horrible, misogynistic», - Harvey said. «People call me. It was absolutely horrible. I wouldn’t give it any value, and it’s not really my kind of drama».

«Fawn Baby» portrays Gadd’s character, Donnie Dana, a struggling comedian in London, who is pursued and harassed by a woman named Martha Scott. Throughout the mini-series, viewers see Martha Gann verbally and physically attack Donnie and his girlfriend. She also sexually assaults him in one scene.

If you or someone you know has been subjected to sexual violence, please call the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1−800−656-HOPE (4673). A trained staff member will provide confidential, impartial support, as well as local resources to help with healing, recovery, and more
