Flavor Flav decided to cheer up Jordan Chiles after she lost the bronze medal in the individual floor exercise due to appeals to the judges at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
The 23-year-old American gymnast delivered a strong performance, finishing in fifth place after the US team asked the judges to review her routine due to a difficulty penalty. This led to Jordan temporarily receiving the bronze medal, standing on the podium and displacing Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu from third place.
However, Romania did not overlook this situation. They also filed an appeal, claiming that the US team delayed submitting their appeal. This resulted in Jordan losing her third position, and Ana Barbosu was reinstated on the podium.
The loss of the bronze medal sparked a wave of support for the American Olympic champion, including from 65-year-old rapper Flavor Flav. In a post published on Sunday, August 11, he wrote: «Hey, YOOO @ChilesJordan, I’ll make you a bronze necklace-watch, and no one else has one like it! Get in touch with me, my girl, I got your back!»
Many fans supported Flavor Flav’s public gesture. One user wrote: «Thank you, Flav. I feel so sorry for Jordan. Olympic athletes deserve better. You really make the world a better place». Another added: «Flav is back with the Olympic spirit!»
In response to the situation, the International Olympic Committee stated: «We are in touch with the Romanian NOC to discuss the redistribution ceremony and with the USOPC regarding the return of the bronze medal». Meanwhile, Jordan announced that she plans to take a break from social media for her «mental health».
The US gymnastics team also came to her defense, releasing a statement on X: «The basis for the CAS decision on Friday to reject the appeal was that 'The appeal filed on behalf of Ms. Jordan Chiles in the women’s floor exercise final was filed after the one-minute deadline provided for in Article 8.5 of the FIG Technical Rules 2024 and was deemed inactive'».
They continued: «The temporary video submitted by USA Gymnastics on Sunday evening shows that Landi first declared her intention to appeal at the appeal table 47 seconds after the score was posted, followed by a second declaration 55 seconds after the score was initially posted»
