Rock band Foo Fighters plans to donate to Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign after Republican candidate Donald Trump used one of their songs at a recent event. A representative of the band told The Independent on August 25 that Trump’s team did not ask for permission to use their song «My Hero» at a rally where Robert F. Kennedy Jr. endorsed the 78-year-old politician. The representative added, «and if they had asked, we would not have given permission».
The representative also noted that «any royalties received from this use will be donated» to Kamala’s campaign with her running mate Tim Walz.
Foo Fighters solidified their position by responding to a fan’s question through X (formerly known as Twitter).
«Hey @foofighters, did you allow Trump to use 'My Hero' to introduce RFK on stage?» wrote a social media user, to which the band’s official account replied, «No».
The Foo Fighters account retweeted the conversation, adding, «Let's be clear».
However, a Trump campaign representative told The Independent that they had actually licensed the song through the BMI’s Songview service. The representative told the publication, «We have a license to play the song».
Earlier this month, Beyoncé sent a letter to the Trump campaign demanding they stop using her song «Freedom» in social media videos, according to multiple sources. The video was removed. Kamala, 59, used the same track in her campaign ad and in her speech at the Democratic National Convention.
Trump and Harris are currently traveling the country as part of their presidential campaigns. They are scheduled to participate in debates on September 10.
In July, President Joe Biden declined to run for re-election, leading the Democratic Party to nominate a vice-presidential candidate. The 81-year-old politician endorsed Kamala and supported her at the DNC. Biden decided not to run after many Democrats and other public figures called for him to step aside, citing the president’s age as a major issue
