Harry Shum Jr. comments on DWTS judge’s criticism
Harry Shum Jr. commented on the criticism from judge Carrie Ann Inaba regarding his performance on «Dancing with the Stars». In his statement on the official show page on Instagram on October 14, he urged everyone to «take a deep breath» and noted that «everything will be okay».

During the episode that aired on October 13, Shum and his partner Jenna Johnson performed a samba to the song «Yeah!» by Usher ft. Lil Jon & Ludacris. After their performance, Inaba pointed out that there was a lift in their dance, which is not allowed in traditional samba. Jenna, 32, appeared puzzled and questioned the criticism, to which Inaba, 58, interrupted judge Derek Hough’s commentary to explain what a lift is.

Despite the criticism, Inaba rated the couple’s performance an 8 out of 10, which sparked debate among viewers about the consistency of her scores. Hough and guest judge Joe Buck also gave Shum and Johnson an 8, while Bruno Tonioli awarded them a 9, resulting in the couple scoring 33 out of 40 possible points.

Jenna later stated that she believed the rule against lifts only applied when she was lifting her partner. By the end of the evening, there were no hard feelings between Inaba and Johnson. Jenna noted that she respects the judges' work and is open to receiving their feedback.
