Her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, confessed to killing her before taking his own life with a firearm, authorities reported, discovering his remains in Florida. The Netflix documentary series «American Murder: Gabby Petito» in 2025 reminded viewers that Brian’s parents, Christopher and Roberta Laundrie, avoided Gabby’s family as they desperately sought answers about their daughter. But another member of the Laundrie family was also in the spotlight: Brian’s sister, Cassie Laundrie, who tried to avoid her family after the case became public.

Reporters and local residents turned to Cassie at her home, demanding answers, as shown in the Netflix documentary series in 2025. Speaking to someone filming her at home, Cassie insisted that she was «just as upset, disappointed, and heartbroken as everyone else» about her brother’s disappearance and the mystery surrounding Gabby.
«I am losing my parents, brother, and my children’s aunt and future sister-in-law in the midst of this», - Cassie said. «We literally found out everything from the news, just like everyone else».
Gabby’s remains were found in Wyoming, and Brian’s skeletal remains were discovered in Florida next to a handwritten note confessing to Gabby’s murder.
During an interview on Good Morning America in October 2021, Cassie recalled the last time she saw Brian when he returned home without Gabby. Cassie noted that there was «nothing strange» about her brother at the time.
«We just spent a couple of hours, had dinner, sat by the fire, and then left», - Cassie said. «There was no sense of a big 'goodbye'… It annoys me that I didn’t notice anything in hindsight. It was a regular visit».
Meanwhile, Cassie supported in a separate GMA interview that Gabby was «like a sister» to her.
Currently, Cassie lives away from the public eye but updated her Instagram followers on her relationship with her parents in February 2025.
