George Clooney has joined the circle of celebrities calling on President Joe Biden to withdraw from the election. In a new article published in The New York Times, the 63-year-old movie star emphasized that the 81-year-old politician is a «hero», - but stated that he «cannot» defeat Donald Trump.
«I love Joe Biden», - George began in the essay published on Wednesday, July 10. «As a senator. As vice president and as president. I consider him a friend, and I believe in him. I believe in his character. I believe in his morals. Over the past four years, he has won many battles he has faced».
However, the actor of «Up in the Air» noted: «But one battle he cannot win is the fight against time. None of us can».
«It's devastating to say this, but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at a fundraiser was not the Joe 'big fucking deal' Biden of 2010», - George confessed, adding: «He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same person we all saw in the debates».
George referred to the debates on June 27 between Joe and Donald, 78. Throughout the television event, viewers saw the former senator stumble over several answers. As a result, many claim that Joe’s age has affected his leadership abilities.
«It's about age. Nothing more», - George continued. «But also nothing that can be changed. We are not going to win in November with this president. Furthermore, we will not win the House, and we will lose the Senate. This is not just my opinion; it is the opinion of every senator, congressman, and governor I have spoken to privately. Everyone, regardless of what he or she says publicly».
Without naming any of the obvious politicians he spoke with, George concluded his article, calling the president a «hero» and noting that he «saved democracy in 2020».
«We need him to do it again in 2024», - George added, referring to Joe’s choice to withdraw from the election.
After the debates against Donald, shown last month, several politicians publicly called on Joe to withdraw. However, the president insisted that he remains in the race, according to a letter received by CNN last week.
«I want you to know that despite all the speculation in the press and elsewhere, I am firmly committed to staying in this race, seeing it through to the end, and defeating Donald Trump», - Joe wrote. «We have 42 days until the Democratic convention and 119 days until the general election. Any weakening of resolve or uncertainty about the task ahead only helps Trump and harms us. It’s time to come together, move forward as a united party, and defeat Donald Trump»
