George Stephanopoulos admitted that he does not think President Joe Biden will be able to serve another presidential term, while speaking to a passerby in New York in a video published by TMZ on Tuesday, July 9. The host of «Good Morning America», - 63-year-old Stephanopoulos, appeared to be walking when someone on the sidewalk stopped to talk to him and ask his opinion after interviewing the 81-year-old president.

The person filming the exchange asked Stephanopoulos for his opinion, and he noted that the former White House communications director «talked to him more than anyone else recently». George quickly replied, «I don’t think he will be able to serve another four years», - he said.

After the video was released, ABC News issued a statement to clarify that the host was not speaking on behalf of the network. «George expressed his point of view, not the position of ABC News», - the organization told TMZ. Stephanopoulos' representative also released a statement from the host, expressing regret for his response to the question. «Earlier today I answered a passerby’s question. I should not have done that», - he said.

Stephanopoulos' interview with Biden took place after the president’s debates with former President Donald Trump. After an unsatisfactory performance, there were many calls for Biden to step down as the Democratic candidate for the 2024 elections, including from longtime supporters like George Clooney.

Despite numerous calls for resignation, Biden insists on staying in the race. On Monday, he published a letter he wrote to Democratic leaders in Congress, urging the party to support him. «I want you to know that despite all the speculation in the press and elsewhere, I am firmly committed to staying in this race, seeing it through to the end, and defeating Donald Trump», - he wrote. «I would not be in the race again if I did not absolutely believe that I am the best person to defeat Donald Trump in 2024»
