«I firmly believe that, regardless of everything, murder is not okay», - said Gypsy. «I truly believe that I deserve to spend some time in prison for this crime. But I also understand why it happened, and I don’t think I’m in the right place to get the help I need».
In her childhood, Dee Dee convinced everyone that her daughter suffered from multiple illnesses, including muscular dystrophy and leukemia. Dee Dee even regularly shaved Gypsy’s head to maintain the appearance of a cancer patient. Furthermore, Dee Dee also forced Gypsy to take unnecessary medications and put her in a wheelchair, despite Gypsy being able to walk.
Dee Dee’s actions were deemed child abuse, making Gypsy a victim of Munchausen syndrome by proxy — when a caregiver fabricates health symptoms in another person.
