«The Most Eligible Bachelor in Oz» is here, according to the latest teaser from Wicked. Jonathan Bailey appears in a new clip from the upcoming film, which hits theaters on November 22, in the role of his character, Fiyero Tiggular. The self-proclaimed «self-absorbed and deeply superficial» prince is the center of attention in the film based on the stage musical.
After Glinda Ariana Grande (who becomes Glinda in the Wizard of Oz) and Elphaba Cynthia Erivo (i.e. the Wicked Witch of the West) meet Fiyero, Glinda is charmed by him, but Elphaba is not impressed at all. Throughout the teaser clip, viewers see Glinda Ariana and Fiyero Jonathan meeting at Shiz University, where many other students admire them, except for Elphaba. By the end of the video, Elphaba tells Fiyero that he is pretending to be «superficial» and «self-absorbed», - but he assures her that he actually considers himself «truly self-absorbed and deeply superficial».
Last year, 36-year-old Jonathan described working with the rest of the Wicked cast during an interview with PEOPLE.
«Everyone involved is a theater fan», - he told the publication in December 2023. «Ari and I were very fun that day, and seeing Michelle Yeoh sing and be brilliant was amazing. … It will blow people’s minds. So get ready».
As for his co-stars, 31-year-old Ariana and 37-year-old Cynthia promoted part 1 of their upcoming film. Part 2 is set to be released on November 26, 2025. Wearing themed outfits at public events and discussing the film during interviews, Ariana explained what fans can expect from her and Cynthia during a recent appearance on «Hot Ones».
«There was a lot of singing in bubbles, which was very high and I wasn’t tied up. I was just there», - Ariana told host Sean Evans. «I had a lot of things to sing, but nothing compares to Cynthia Erivo. It’s my favorite sight in the world, watching Cynthia in her harness with broom, hat, wig, corset, dress, all of that, flipping upside down, flying around the set, singing 'Defying Gravity' every shot, as if it were nothing».
The pop star concluded that she and her partners «had to do some really crazy and beautiful things for this film, and it was so much fun»
