Glenn Powell may be at the peak of his film career, but that didn’t stop him from completing his bachelor’s degree at the University of Texas at Austin. During the promotion of his new film «Twisters», - the 35-year-old actor spoke with IndieWire about how he will balance work and school.
«I won’t be sitting in class with other students regularly», - explained Glenn, discussing his upcoming film «Running Man». «Essentially, I will return because I need to finish, but I will be filming 'Running Man' in the fall».
Noting that he will be «in London» at that time, the «Top Gun: Maverick» star added that he will «return [to class] for proctored exams».
«So they allow me to figure out [with] distance learning», - he explained. «And obviously, I will attend classes via Zoom and so on, but I need to return for proctored exams. So we are figuring it out, and two or three times a semester I will return for all my material».
Before the «Top Gun» sequel elevated the actor to stardom, Glenn attended the University of Texas for one year. He then left and moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting.
This is not the first time the «Expendables» star has spoken about his education. In May, he sat down with The Hollywood Reporter and noted that completing college is «really important to [his] mom, and it’s more of an emotional thing for [him]».
«Plus, I’m so close that I can feel it», - added Glenn, before sharing more about his struggles in finding steady work in the entertainment industry. «I've worked long and hard, putting things together and just trying to get them to a point where people care».
Now, with several successful films under his belt, including the widely discussed Netflix romantic comedy «Any, But You», - Glenn has decided to leave Los Angeles and return to his home state of Texas. Praising his fellow Texan Matthew McConaughey, Glenn shared the advice the «Dallas Buyers Club» star gave him.
«He says, 'Hollywood is the Matrix, dude. You get sucked in and it’s all fake world,'» Glenn recalled Matthew’s words. «He says, 'Then I go to Austin and unplug. That’s all real. Those are my friends, that’s my family, my actions matter there.' And he’s right. If you’re here, you’re living in the Matrix all the time, there’s no separation of these worlds. And for me, especially as my parents age and my nephew and niece grow up, I want that separation of these worlds»
