While most operations have been restored, requests to launch new EC2 instances (or services that launch EC2 instances, such as ECS) in the US-EAST-1 region still experience elevated error rates. Just after 1:00 PM Eastern Time, the Amazon health dashboard announced that they would continue to apply «steps to mitigate load on the network balancer and restore connectivity for most AWS services».
Some Amazon services are still unavailable for many users at the time of publication. For many, the «orders» section in the Amazon app contains a message: «Hmm. We’re still having trouble displaying your orders because something isn’t working».
The rest of the Amazon app has similar messages on its home screen, indicating that updates are currently unable to be loaded due to the outage.
The Amazon outage may be resolved by the end of the day on October 20, but the company insists that the main issue has been «resolved». However, according to computer networking expert Graham Bragg from the University of Southampton, the problem may persist «until the end of the day».
