The Hunger Games: Dawn of the Reaping is the final loud part of both Suzanne Collins' book series and the film franchise. The story serves as a prologue to the original series and focuses on 16-year-old Haymitch Abernathy, originally played by Woody Harrelson. In the prologue, readers get an idea of the young version of the future rebel Plutarch Heavensbee, portrayed in the films by the late Philip Seymour Hoffman. In April 2025, Lionsgate announced the casting of a new Plutarch: Jesse Plemons.
«Jesse is one of the most talented actors of his generation, with a proven track record of choosing roles with special attention», - said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-president Erin Westerman in a statement quoted by Deadline. «We respect his choice to bring his vision to one of the most intriguing figures in Panem, and we believe that his previous collaboration with Philip Seymour Hoffman makes it even more special. His Plutarch will be both a tribute to the character fans already know and an interpretation he makes his own. We can’t wait for audiences to see it».
Jesse is a well-known actor, known for his numerous Emmy and Oscar nominations. But if you don’t know much about the star, Hollywood Life has gathered five facts about him below.
Born in Dallas, Jesse grew up in a small town in Texas called Mart. The population there is only about 2000 people, which is very different from a big city like Los Angeles, where Jesse later moved.
Jesse began his career in show business at the age of 3, appearing in a Coca-Cola commercial. Since then, he has gradually landed supporting roles in very successful films and TV series, such as «Friday Night Lights».
While working on «Friday Night Lights», Jesse tried to use his football skills from high school on set, taking hits from his co-star Taylor Kitsch. In a past interview, Jesse recalled his overconfidence when he told the director he wanted to do his own stunts.
«In the first season, I just get beat up over and over and over again. But I was like, 'Dude, I can do this. I’ve already taken a few hits,'» said Jesse. «There was this scene where Taylor had to knock me down. And he did, and I got up, and started jumping around — and everyone was shocked! My chin split open, I had to get 11 stitches. So, I think that’s probably the end of my own stunts. But hopefully not».
Viewers who have followed Jesse’s work know that he has played many villains on screen. He portrayed Todd Alquist in «Breaking Bad», Ed Blumquist in «Fargo», three different roles in «The Power of the Dog», and a cold-blooded cop in «Civil War».
Since 2022, Jesse has been married to fellow actress Kirsten Dunst, with whom they have two children. Although they prefer to keep their relationship private, the couple has appeared in various projects together, including «Fargo», «The Power of the Dog», and «Civil War»
