Lightning will make their grand debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2025. In Marvel comics, Lightning is a group of anti-heroes/reformed villains who work for the government. Marvel confirmed at Comic-Con in San Diego in 2022 that the film «Lightning» is officially in the works. The upcoming film includes a star-studded cast and will be part of Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe — and the final trailer gave fans a strong anticipation!
Production was halted due to strikes in Hollywood in 2023, so the release date was postponed more than once. Since production changed so drastically, some actors had to drop out of the film. The film was originally expected to be in theaters on July 26, 2024. The original release date was announced at Comic-Con in San Diego in July 2022. The film was supposed to start filming in June 2023, but the production team was told to wait until the end of the strike, according to Deadline.
The film will be the penultimate film released in Phase Five, before «Blade» with Mahershala Ali. Phase 5 MCU films released before «Lightning» include «Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania», - «Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3», - «The Marvels», - and «Captain America: New World Order». Marvel also introduced a whole host of Phase 5 shows on Disney+, including «Secret Invasion», - the second season of «Loki», - and «Echo». «Ironheart», - «Agatha: House of Chaos», - and «Daredevil: Rebirth» are on the horizon.

Ayo Edebiri was originally supposed to play in «Lightning», - but she had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. «Blockade» star Geraldine Viswanathan replaces the «Bear» star in «Lightning». Marvel remains silent about who Ayo (and now Geraldine) will play in the film.
Ayo’s departure came after Steven Yeun had to drop out of an unknown role in «Lightning». «For me, the past and changes in things kind of pushed me out of it», - Steven told Variety. «But Yak [Shrayr], I know, will do an incredible job». He added, «I want to be in a Marvel movie».
Lewis Pullman replaced Steven in «Lightning». Lewis recently received critical acclaim for his role in «Chemical Hearts» with Brie Larson. The actor, son of Bill Pullman, also played Bob in «Top Gun: Maverick».
Jake Schreier will direct «Lightning», - marking his first MCU project. His most famous film is the 2015 «Paper Towns». Eric Pearson is writing the screenplay, having previously done so for «Thor: Ragnarok» and «Black Widow».
Kevin Feige revealed at D23 that «Lightning» was supposed to start filming in early 2023, but production of the film was pushed to mid or late 2023. David Harbour said he will be filming «Lightning» and the fifth season of «Stranger Things» simultaneously. «I'll have to constantly switch between them. They’ll have to kind of share me», - he told Collider. «And so it’s like, I don’t know exactly how they do it, but it’s week on week, two weeks on two weeks, something like that, where I would alternately go back and forth». David also said that both projects are being filmed in Atlanta, which helps his busy schedule.
