Yes, Shapiro and his family are all safe and were successfully evacuated in time, he explained in a tweet.
«Last night around 2 am, my family and I were awakened by knocks on the door from the Pennsylvania State Police after the governor’s home in Harrisburg was set on fire», - Shapiro wrote on April 13. «The Harrisburg Fire Department was on the scene, and while they extinguished the fire, we were safely evacuated from the residence by the state police and assisted by the Capitol Police».
Shapiro added that «no one was injured, and the fire was extinguished».
«Every day we stand guard for law enforcement and first responders who run towards danger to protect our communities», - the governor wrote, adding: «Last night they did it for our family — and Lori [Shapiro] and I are forever grateful to them for ensuring our safety».
The state police clarified in their statement that the governor and his family «were in another part of the residence» away from the fire and «were safely evacuated and unharmed».
Law enforcement authorities have not yet determined who set fire to Shapiro’s home. However, a suspect named Cody Balmer from Harrisburg was arrested on April 13. During a press conference that day, District Attorney Dofin Francis Chardo said they plan to charge Balmer, 38, with attempted murder, terrorism, arson, and aggravated assault against a specific person.
«It's not on the record yet, but the charges will include attempted murder, terrorism, arson, and aggravated assault against a specific person», - Chardo said, adding: «These are all very serious charges. As in any case, the defendant is presumed innocent»
