Gypsy Rose Blanchard took some time to talk about her late mother Dee Dee Blanchard in a Mother’s Day video on Sunday, May 12. In the video, Gypsy, 32, thanked her stepmother Kristy, aunt Vicky, and her boyfriend Ken Urker’s mother on this holiday, but before she talked about the qualities she likes in both of them, she addressed the elephant in the room and expressed her current thoughts about her late mother in the video. «Hi, today is Mother’s Day, and I wanted to make a video, mainly celebrating really strong and wonderful women who have been mother figures to me for the past eight and a half years», - she said at the beginning of the video.

Gypsy was convicted of second-degree murder of her mother Dee Dee. Posthumously, it is believed that Dee Dee had Munchausen syndrome by proxy, where a parent or caregiver fabricates symptoms to make it appear that their child is sick. Gypsy was not actually sick, but she underwent a lot of treatment for various disorders after her mother took her to doctors. Gypsy’s then-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn stabbed Dee Dee 17 times in June 2015. Nicholas received a life sentence. Gypsy was sentenced to 10 years in prison but was released on parole in December 2023 after serving eight years. Shortly before her release, Gypsy became the subject of the documentary film «Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s Prison Confessions» on Lifetime.

Before she began talking about her mother, Gypsy explained why comments were disabled. «I don’t want to hear any negative nonsense. If you want to talk trash about me, please do it on your own platform, but I won’t see it in my comments», - she said.

After explaining why comments were disabled, Gypsy explained how she chooses to think about Dee Dee on Mother’s Day. «I can’t help but notice that my own biological mother is not here to celebrate Mother’s Day, and what I choose to feel on Mother’s Day, regarding my own mother, is that I think the best of her. I think of the good times. I think of her not as what she did to me, but as a person», - she said. «Was she a good mother? No. Was she the best mother in the world? No. But she was still my mother, so what I choose to think about her, whether it’s guilt, anger, sorrow, resentment, whatever, that’s my feeling».

Continuing, Gypsy said that she tries not to let anyone’s thoughts about her mother influence her own opinion. «No one can take away my own feelings towards my own mother, and I believe that no one should have the right to express an opinion about my mother, except her family and me, because we were the closest people to her. Everyone else doesn’t matter», - she said.

Despite the extremely complicated relationship with her mother, Gypsy said she tries to remember the good moments, saying that she hopes her mother is looking at her in a positive light. «I choose to remember her for the good that was in her heart, which I sincerely believe. I have been working on forgiveness for many years, and I hope that she is in heaven, and I hope that in some way I make her proud with at least some of the achievements I have made in life, growing up and standing on my own two feet, learning from my mistakes», - she said. «In heaven, they say that all mental suffering, all physical suffering disappears, right? God makes you perfect in heaven, so if you remove the mental suffering that my mother had, then, I think, a good person remains».

Before moving on to talk about other «mother figures» in her life, Gypsy said she will keep her mother in her thoughts on Mother’s Day. «Today I will pray for her», - she told her followers
