Hailey Lindell did not have decades of survival experience when she won the reality show Extracted on FOX — in fact, she was an amateur. However, she had a mindset of independence, adaptability, and gratitude. Lindell can laugh and show vulnerability, but she had the mental toughness to succeed in the harshest conditions. In her performance on Extracted, she showed what real strength looks like and took home the grand prize of $ 250,000.

Extracted is a survival reality show where unprepared participants try to survive in the Canadian wilderness. From amateur to survivalist
Before participating in the show, Hailey’s survival experience was limited to being an amateur river guide and outdoor enthusiast. She went on hikes, participated in river adventures, and lived in a van. She hiked for five months, lived in a tent, and knows how to start a fire well — along the way, she learned to be adaptive. So when a new opportunity arose, the answer was clear.
«When such an experience presents itself to me, all I can do is say 'Yes! A million times yes.' I am always open to new adventures and love finding new ways to push my limits», - Lindell says.
Overcoming challenges
Although Lindell was excited about the challenge, she had concerns even before it began. Since childhood, she had terrible migraines — usually due to lack of food — which caused unbearable nausea and pain. Nevertheless, she was determined that this was the only factor that could make her be extracted — nothing else could make her give up.
Adaptability as strength
During the show, adaptability truly proved to be Lindell’s main strength. When she didn’t have a sleeping bag, she boiled water and used water bottles to heat a blanket. When there was no food in the supply, she found ants and bark. She laughed despite the tension and pushed herself every day — she even carved a spoon.
«One of my favorite memories from the show is when I was burning my underwear and socks. I could only laugh… We were so exhausted at that moment, and everything seemed absurd. All our things were wet, and it was impossible to dry clothes, so one night I roasted them over the fire. My brilliant idea quickly turned into charred underwear and socks», - she says.

Having become the winner of Extracted, Lindell learned a lot from the experience and took home the grand prize of $ 250,000. She experienced a range of emotions, including feelings of foolishness, triumph, and defeat, which could not be conveyed in just one episode.
