Several stars of the show discussed the crime drama in an interview published after the completion of the first season in April 2025. Speaking with Us Weekly, Dennis noted that the series is «authentic».
«If you love crime stories… I constantly fall asleep under the Dateline — in a good way», - the actor joked, adding, «But if you love crime stories, you will be addicted to this».
All episodes of «Happy Face» are currently available for viewing on Paramount+.
At the moment, «Happy Face» has not been renewed for a second season, but perhaps the door remains slightly open for it.
In response to questions about a second season, Dennis told Us Weekly, «I'll leave that decision [to creators Jennifer Casizio and Melissa G. Moore]. They have such a great imagination. [But the real serial killer] always said there were more than eight [victims he killed]. Whether he will do it for attention — which is likely the case — remains a mystery. But there is still more to explore here».
The real Keith Hunter Jesperson is currently serving his sentence in the Oregon State Penitentiary, where he is serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
Dennis discussed Keith’s whereabouts during his interview with Us Weekly. He also noted that he «didn't want to meet» the real killer, although he enjoys «playing real people» and doing his homework before each performance.
«He's in a hole in prison, which is exactly where he should be», - noted the star of «Trading Paint». «I didn’t want to give him any satisfaction or excitement. This story is really told from the perspective of his daughter. I think she knows him better than he knows himself»
