The sequel series «Crazy Rich Asians» has received official approval from HBO and will begin production in 2027. The series will be an original drama that continues the storyline initiated in the 2018 film and will be based on Kevin Kwan’s trilogy.

Constance Wu and Henry Golding will reprise their roles as Rachel and Nick, respectively. Michelle Yeoh will also participate in the project as Nick’s mother, Eleanor, and Ronnie Chieng will play Nick’s cousin, Eddie. As of now, the additional cast has not been revealed.

The plot of the series will draw on events described in Kwan’s second and third novels. In particular, in «China Rich Girlfriend», - Rachel and Nick plan a wedding in California, despite disagreements with Nick’s family. Eleanor, who is not invited to the wedding, arrives to speak with her son and reveals a secret about Rachel’s father.

In the third novel, «Rich People Problems», - Nick must mend his relationship with his grandmother, who has suffered a heart attack, and deal with her inheritance after her death. Additionally, the storyline will explore Astrid’s relationship, as she faces blackmail from her ex-husband, and her former fiancé, Charlie.

The series will consist of eight episodes, each lasting one hour.
