Hayden Panettiere was reportedly in a rehabilitation center and struggled with an overdose prior to her death at the age of 36. According to Page Six, a detailed report from the Greenville County coroner’s office states that one of Panettiere’s brothers, Brian or Zach Hickerson, claimed that the actress «was in a drug rehabilitation center» in Malibu «up until a few weeks» before her death in August.
The actress’s father, Skip Panettiere, also informed authorities that his daughter «had recently been discharged from rehab» after two or three weeks in the facility. The report notes that Skip mentioned Hayden «had been battling addiction since her early 20s» and had undergone treatment in several rehabilitation centers since then. He also commented on Hayden’s relationship with her longtime boyfriend Brian, describing it as «nothing but trouble».
The coroner’s report also mentions that Hayden «suffered from postpartum depression after the birth of her daughter» and that her «addiction issues worsened since then». Hayden gave birth to her daughter Kaya with ex-boyfriend Wladimir Klitschko in 2014.
The cause of Hayden’s death was officially announced on September 22, a month after she was found dead. According to the Greenville County coroner’s office, she died from «toxic effects of fentanyl, 4-ANPP, alprazolam, methocarbamol, and quetiapine». The death was ruled accidental.
A representative for the actress stated that «the investigation is still ongoing, and the case is complex». Earlier this month, reports emerged that Hayden’s death is part of an investigation spanning Los Angeles and South Carolina, focused on the origins of the drugs related to her death. Following rumors that Hayden had taken oxycodone containing fentanyl, her representative emphasized that the investigation is not yet complete.
