The US team is missing one gymnast, as Hezli Rivera was unable to score a high mark during the qualifying stage of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
The 16-year-old made her debut this year at the Games alongside her teammates Simone Biles, Suni Lee, Jade Carey, and Jordan Chiles. Since the national team made it to the final, the youngest Olympic gymnast will not be participating, having received a low score of 12.633 on the bars and 13.900 on the uneven bars.
Despite finishing in 26th and 13th place, which were not high, her scores helped lead her teammates to the final. On Tuesday, July 30, the group won the gold medal, meaning that the young gymnast, though not participating in the final, received her first Olympic medal.
Hezli received support from her teammates, especially before arriving in Paris. Simone Biles showed her sisterly instincts before the Olympic qualifiers, saying: «We will definitely guide her through all the difficulties. We’ve been there, we’ve done that. She’s young; she can’t even drive a car. Do we need to teach her how to drive a car before she goes to Paris? She’s so young, she’s so sweet, she’s so smart, she’s beautiful. We’re really proud of her for making it onto this team, and we’re really excited to show her the ropes. She doesn’t have to do it alone; she has four veterans who have been there».

For the first-time Olympian who dreamed of this moment since she was seven, she told Us Weekly: «They're going to be such great examples and mentors… Especially for my first Olympics, just having people who have been there and have experience».
She added: «It's so important to support your friends and team… Even if you’re competing against each other, it’s great to have that connection. To have help and help other gymnasts, I think that’s what’s wonderful about this sport».
Although she did not place high in her first Olympic Games, Hezli leaves as a winner alongside her teammates, who led the US to victory in the gymnastics competition
