A man has been sentenced to six years in prison for sexually assaulting three girls whom he separately targeted at a T.J. Maxx store in New York. Jimmy Harry Velasquez Gomez, a 44-year-old citizen of Honduras, received three concurrent sentences, as well as 10 years of supervised release after his prison term, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.
Velasquez Gomez pleaded guilty on August 27 to three counts of first-degree sexual assault. The incidents occurred at the T.J. Maxx in Medford, Long Island, and involved girls aged 11, 9, and 7.
The first incident took place in April 2025, when Velasquez Gomez approached a 7-year-old girl in the toy department, where she was with her mother. He grabbed her by the buttocks, after which the girl told her mother, who called the police but could not find him in the store.
In September 2025, he allegedly targeted an 11-year-old girl who had wandered away from her parents to find a gift for a friend. She noticed Velasquez Gomez, who, according to the prosecution, «was holding his genitals through his clothing», - and then also grabbed her by the buttocks.
The third incident involved a 9-year-old girl when Velasquez Gomez approached her in the toy department and also committed sexual acts. The prosecution reported that investigators reviewed surveillance footage that captured Velasquez Gomez during each of the incidents.
Velasquez Gomez’s attorney, Daniel Belano, did not respond to a request for comment. The prosecution also stated that protective orders had been issued against Velasquez Gomez to prevent him from approaching the girls, and he has been registered as a sex offender. Additionally, according to the prosecution, he is in the country illegally, and U.S. immigration authorities have filed a request for his detention after his release from prison.
