This is the end of an era. Hoda Kotb, 60, is stepping down from the job that made her famous — co-hosting on NBC’s TODAY show. According to NBC, she announced this on September 26, 2024. In emotional comments, she explained, «For me, turning 60 was such a significant moment because I started thinking about what awaits me in this decade», - she said. «I realized it was time to turn the page at 60 and try something new».
As she finishes her work on the show, find out who will replace Hoda on TODAY.
According to TODAY, Kotb felt she had reached the peak of her career and expressed a desire to spend more time with her two daughters. «I knew it was the best it could be», - she said in an interview for the show. «I was on top of the mountain, looking around and saying, 'Oh my God, this is amazing'». But, as she says, it «underscored» a deep question. «…a week ago, my little daughter Hope climbed a tree, and she really likes this tree, and she was at the top», - she recalled. «And I said, 'Look at you. You’re at the top of this tree.' I asked, 'What are you going to do — what are you going to do now?'». Hoda continued: «She said, 'I think I’ll find another tree'».
Kotb says that at that moment, «I kind of realized it was time to try something else, and that means, you know, having my kids ride along with me more often».
According to the New York Post, lead anchor Craig Melvin will take Kotb’s place. A permanent co-host for TODAY With Hoda & Jenna has not yet been announced. Rotating guest hosts will fill in until a decision is made.
According to TODAY, Hoda’s last day as co-host of the show and co-host of TODAY With Hoda and Jenna will be Friday, January 10, 2025. Jenna Bush Hager announced on December 18 that there will be a week of celebrations before Kotb’s departure. «We're going to have a Hoda-bration for Hoda’s last show, and you know what? We’re going to have a live audience», - she enthusiastically declared at the time
